Projects of the Department of Biomedical Engineering

The Department of Biomedical Engineering has participated in numerous domestic and international projects through which it has established collaboration with experts from various fields within multidisciplinary research.

The main areas of research and development at the Department are:

  1. Early detection of skin cancer and melanoma, cervical, and colon cancer,
  2. Nanomedicine engineering,
  3. Biomedical software engineering, and
  4. Clinical engineering.

Within these research areas, the Department staff is dedicated to solving the following problems:

  1. In collaboration with medical institutions:
    • Development of devices for early diagnosis of cancer and pathological conditions of biological systems
    • Development of aids in ophthalmology
    • Research on the effects of light on wound healing
  2. Using sophisticated equipment in the NanoLab laboratory, such as: Scanning Tunneling Microscopy (STM), Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM), Magnetic Force Microscopy (MFM), UV/VIS/NIR, and FTIR spectroscopes:
    • Application of fullerenes in medicine,
    • Modeling the growth dynamics of cancerous cells
  3. Signal processing:
    • Application of machine learning in the processing of spectroscopic signals,
    • Development of algorithms for detecting biological conditions based on biosignal processing and using machine learning methods,
    • Research of control systems at the molecular level (optimal control of nano-manufacturing processes)
  4. Production of parts for medical aids on a 3D printer:
    • Creating prototypes of enclosures for medical devices,
    • Modeling and creating custom-made medical devices
